Fishing Cairns Inlet – Half Day Adventure 🎣
Ready to hook into the action close to town? Fishing Cairns Inlet is a fun, hands-on half-day tour through the creeks and channels of Trinity Inlet — one of the most productive estuary systems in Tropical North Queensland. Better still, you’ll be fishing prime structure like snags, drop-offs, mudflats and deep holes, so there’s always a good reason to cast “just one more time”. 🚤✨
Barramundi Fishing, local-style 🐟🔥
If you’ve ever dreamed of landing a barra, this is your chance. This is classic Barramundi Fishing, using live bait gathered at the start of the trip, and then working the tides and conditions to put you in the right spots at the right time. As a result, you’re not just fishing — you’re learning how locals chase barra in Cairns’ backyard. (Barramundi is seasonal and not available from 1st Nov till 31st Jan)
What you could catch (it’s a mixed bag) 🎯
Because the inlet is so diverse, your target species can change with the day. Common catches include Mangrove Jack, Fingermark, King and Blue Threadfin, Grunter (Javelin Fish), Queenfish, Bream, Trevally species, Flathead and more — and of course, the star of the show: Barramundi.
Half-day tour (easy to fit into your plans) ⏰
If you’re short on time, this half-day option makes it simple. There’s an afternoon tour running 11:30am–4:00pm, which is ideal if you want a sleep-in and still finish the day with a serious chance at a great fish. 😎
Why people love it ✅
• Close to Cairns — no long travel times, just more time fishing
• Small number – only 6 people per trip
• Conditions-based spots — locations are chosen around tides, weather and what’s biting
• A proper estuary experience — scenic waterways, wildlife sightings and that “real FNQ” feel
So, if you want an easy, exciting way to experience Fishing Cairns Inlet and take on the challenge of Barramundi Fishing, this half-day tour ticks all the boxes. 🎣🏆

Throughout the Queensland east coast, a closed season applies to Barramundi from 12:01 am 1st November to 11:59 pm 31st January inclusive each year. It is prohibited to deliberately target Barramundi for catch and release during these closed seasons, as the stress may prevent a fish from spawning.
